A missing term in the science of snark

I just coined a new term that characterizes lab-based genetic studies of limited scope or applicability: Drosophistry.

Just for the hell of it - is the photo that comes with this post actually of Drosophila, or some other fly genus?

Having mashed up some Drosophila so I could do some kind of experiment with their eye goop for my Intro Zoo students, I can confidently state that I'm almost certain that there's no chance that those are Drosophila. They are just the first things that popped up when I Googled "flies on turd".

Awesome. Alas, i could not find any photos of Drosophila flocking to excrement. Oh well.

I know sod all about flies, but they look like greenbottles (Lucilia, a carrion-feeding calliphorid). Definitely not Drosophila.
